Changing Face of OC Lecture Series
2008-2009 Lectures
The Changing Face of Orange County lecture series explores the nexus between demographic change and contemporary issues in urban planning and policy. The lecture series is designed to facilitate dialogue and to enhance public awareness and civic engagement around these important issues.
Spring Quarter Lecture:
"How Tainted the Golden State? Assessing the Fallout of California's Economic Crisis"
Guest Speaker: Cynthia Kroll, Senior Regional Economist, Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics, Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley
Speaker Bio: Dr. Cynthia Kroll is the senior regional economist at the Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics on the U.C. Berkeley Campus. She holds masters and doctoral degrees from U.C. Berkeley's Department of City and Regional Planning. She is well known for her research on California economic trends and their implications for real estate development opportunities and land development issues. Her recent and ongoing research includes work on the global position of California’s economy; globalization of real estate and tourism; California housing conditions and policy, including affordability, the jobs/housing balance, and the effects of the subprime crisis on California's real estate markets and local government finance; state and national responses to the housing and credit crisis; and the regional effects of the dot-com boom and bust in San Francisco. In addition to her twenty-five years at the Center, Dr. Kroll has also worked for the State of California's Office of Economic Research, the Association of Bay Area Governments, SRI International, and as an adjunct lecturer in the UC Berkeley Department of City and Regional Planning. She has also acted as an economic advisor to the California State Controller's Office.
